S200 integrated backbox

Meet the Sapphire S200 IB: The slimline Invisible Speaker with an Integrated Backbox

A few weeks ago we introduced the Sapphire S200, a slimline, compact invisible speaker that brings the warm Sapphire sonic profile to a panel just 200mm wide. The range is now expanding again with the Sapphire S200 IB.

In the simplest terms, “IB” stands for integrated backbox. The speaker arrives with the backbox already fitted, so it goes in as a single, ready-to-install unit.

Why the integrated backbox matters

The backbox does two important jobs, and both shape how robust the finished install will be.

First, it stops unwanted sound from the back of the panel travelling rearwards into adjoining rooms. The energy coming off the rear of a panel can be almost as much as the energy coming off the front, so a backbox is essential. It keeps the sound in the spaces you want it and out of the ones you don’t.

Second, it creates a barrier against any debris sitting in the wall or ceiling void. Over time, loose material can dislodge and come into contact with the back of the speaker, causing rattles. The backbox seals the panel off from that risk and protects sound quality over the long term.

As an integrated backbox invisible speaker, the Sapphire S200 IB ships as one self-contained unit. There is no separate backbox to specify, source or fit, which removes a common point of error on site.

Around 50% faster to install, thanks to front tab mounting

The time saving carries straight through to installation. Fitting the IB version of our Sapphire speakers can reduce overall installation time by around 50%.

The key difference is the tab mounting, which gives the Sapphire S200 IB a front mounting solution. The sequence is straightforward:

  1. Cut the aperture in the drywall
  2. Terminate the cables
  3. Screw the tab mounts in place
  4. Test with Sweep tone
  5. Edge fill the speaker
  6. Apply the final skim coat

Because the tabs mount from the front, the speaker sits immediately flush with the plasterboard and is ready for skimming. Fewer steps and less complexity mean fewer mistakes on site and a cleaner, faster finish.
