Invisible Audio Transformation in a Heritage Essex Property
Nestled deep within the Essex countryside, a historic Tudor property has undergone a remarkable modern transformation, one that seamlessly blends cutting-edge audio technology with centuries-old architecture. This project showcases how innovative design and expert collaboration can deliver high-performance sound without compromising the integrity or aesthetic of a heritage home.
The homeowner approached Cinema Rooms Limited, a company with over 28 years of experience in designing and installing cinema and media rooms, with a clear and challenging brief: to create an exceptional audio experience throughout the home while maintaining a completely minimalist aesthetic. As the property was overseen by Heritage England, preserving its historical character was paramount. This meant that no visible speakers or intrusive install methods could be used.
To meet these requirements, Cinema Rooms Limited partnered with Redline, specialists in the installation of invisible audio solutions, and selected Amina invisible loudspeakers as the solution for the requirement. Known for their ability to be fully plastered into walls and ceilings, Amina speakers provided the perfect solution for achieving high-quality sound while remaining entirely hidden from view.
In the main media room, the team installed Amina Mobius 7i speakers within a custom-built wooden media unit, delivering left, centre, and right audio channels. Additional Mobius 3i speakers were installed throughout the space to create a fully immersive Dolby Atmos configuration, resulting in a 5.2.4 surround sound system. Despite the complexity of the setup, the final result maintained the room’s traditional aesthetic, with no visible indication of the advanced audio system embedded within.
The kitchen and dining area presented a different challenge. Here, the goal was to create balanced background audio suitable for everyday living, again without visible speaker grills. Redline engineered bespoke back boxes with sound insulation to prevent audio bleed into upper floor, an essential consideration in a multi-level heritage property such as this. The speakers were finished with a fine 1mm plaster skim, rendering them completely invisible once installed.
Subwoofer placement posed an additional challenge due to spatial constraints. However, the team successfully concealed the subwoofers within the kitchen cornice, ensuring consistent low-frequency support without disrupting the room’s visual harmony.
Throughout the project, careful attention was paid to both acoustic performance and architectural sensitivity. The collaboration between Cinema Rooms Limited and Redline ensured that every technical hurdle was met with a creative and effective solution.
